High Low

Ok, so this was a first purchase for me. A dress with a high and low hem. I was pretty skeptical on how this would look on me, not knowing if the high or the low would hit right. But, I found this Splendid dress at The Rack in Chicago, so I thought why the heck not?! Well...it ended up looking pretty darn good. I don't know about you other working girls, but I get caught in a trap when I buy dresses that only really look good with heels on. I wanted something I could just throw on for the weekend with sandals...or even in my awesome work environment, wear to the office in the summer. (I'll spare you the details of how my office was a refrigerator that day and I ended up wearing my zip-up jacket all day - not exactly the most fashionable look.)

I guess the lesson I learned was even if I think something isn't going to look good, I at least have to try it on! How something looks on the hanger - or even on a different person - is not necessarily how it will look on me.

Pink and Black

- Emily

I've always loved the pink and black combo. Actually, I think I've dressed the girl in a lot of pink and black in her short nine years! Usually you see it with zebra stripes. Well, not this time! I bought this new infinity scarf on sale at Anthro, and I knew I would probably pair it with a striped shirt. But when I was inspecting the cute detail on the scarf, I thought I would pull the pink out and wear my pink pants!

Here's how it turned out!

Oh...and happy birthday to this man! He's the most wonderful dad a girl could ever ask for!

Pretty Print

- Emily

Sometimes I get stuck in the stripe rut. I've been pretty much obsessed for a couple of years now. So...I bought this shirt to help me out of my rut! I love the print. It has so many colors, the combination of outfits is endless...for both work and play. Here I wanted to pull out the blue, so I paired it with my favorite cobalt blue denim jeans. But, I could have easily worn my green jeans, orange pencil skirt, blue pencil skirt, under a blazer, etc. etc. etc. How would you style it?

And did I mention the fun, gold buttons on the back. I didn't? Well...now I did :)

Total Tourist

- Emily

Although I grew up going to Chicago often, we never did a lot of the "touristy" things. We did do a lot of shopping though. I know, I'm sure you are shocked.

So this last trip, we wanted to do a few things we had never done before. First up...going to Millennium Park to see The Bean. I have seen a ton of pics, and it was really neat seeing it in person. Love how it reflects the city and it seems like it just melts into the sky.

Another stop we make every year is the Lincoln Park Zoo. It's such an old zoo, but such a great zoo. Out front, we noticed a new lion statue, which was a memorial statue of the male lion that had passed away. We were so sad. He had been there since we started visiting the zoo in 2001. But we loved seeing the gorillas. They have a wonderful Ape House, and seeing the gorillas so close up always amazes me.

Last, but not least, we finally rode the ferris wheel at Navy Pier! We can see the Pier and ferris wheel from my parent's balcony, and we finally decided we needed to ride it! $24 later, we could check it off of our "must do" list. It definitely had great views of the city!

What I Wore to the Biltmore

- Emily

The hubs and I had a weekend getaway to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. If you haven't heard of the Biltmore, it's the largest estate in the country. I had always seen television commercials, and I can't tell you how amazing it is in person! Even though it's technically a house, it looks a lot more like a castle. We stayed at the Inn on Biltmore Estate, and it was a beautiful hotel. Highly recommend it - and the on-site restaurant.

Now, I wanted to wear some great wedges with this outfit, but I chose comfort over fashion in this instance. And I'm so glad I did. Touring the house took around two hours, and then we walked around the huge gardens, too. I would have been cursing myself if I had on other shoes.

I love dressing up for dinner. If you have followed the blog for a while, you already know that. So what did I do for dinner each night? You guessed it. Dressed up! The first night we ate at the Bistro, which was delicious. I decided to wear my Nanette Lepore dress from last year.

The next night at dinner was spent at the Dining Room, right at the Inn. I have to say it was one of the best meals I had eaten in a while. The filet was full of flavor and just plain delicious. And Key Lime Creme Brulee for dessert. Yummy!!! This dress I got online at ASOS for....$14!!! I love the peplum. And I love the price.

Yes, No, Maybe So

- Emily

I got a few looks when I wore this outfit last week. I think some people didn't know what to think about the gingham and the stripes. Truthfully, I didn't know what to think about it either, but I ended up really liking it. I love being different; and this is just enough different for me. What are some of your creative outfits lately?

And look at my crazy Frenchie...her personality is just so funny. She loves to give kisses, especially when you don't want any at that particular moment :)
